Half-hull models are as old as boat building itself, and many years ago would have served as the physical plan from which to build the real thing.
All half-hulls shown above were built to the scale of 1:24, or 1/2 inch to the foot. Provided we have the lines of the boat itself, it is possible to produce a half-hull model of any modern sailboat in a matter of days. This is the perfect gift for the sailboat owner, who can then spend the bleak days of winter looking at the model, and dreaming of getting his/her boat back onto the water! I also do half hull repairs, as seen in the before and after pictures below:
The tug half-model shown below was built from a small drawing in "Cruising Yachts" by Jay Benford. It is not built to any specific scale, but is simply meant as a decoration for a child's bedroom:
This one's for my grand-daughter's bedroom - she's a lot cuter than the boat!
Two more just finished......
And another...
And probably the last three - I'm thinking of retiring...
Well, retirement has been delayed.....
And then, what happened? Another granddaughter! And so we get:
And then, I offered to build a free tugboat for the person who pulled the winning ticket at Norwalk Yacht Club. Hey Brad, this one's on you!
Every child's (especially grandchild's) bedroom needs one of these. You choose the colors, and I will build it for you for $250 all in. And now, the Commodore's Hull and a Half... In what is believed to be a first on Long Island Sound, the Past Commodore of Norwalk Yacht Club sails a multihull. In fact, a bright yellow Corsair 31R trimaran. Here is my hull-and-a-half, for the club's wall of fame:
