Half-hull models are as old as boat building itself, and many years ago would
have served as the physical plan from which to build the real thing.

All half-hulls shown above were built to the scale of 1:24, or 1/2 inch to the
foot.
Provided we have the lines of the boat itself, it is possible to produce a
half-hull model of any modern sailboat in a matter of days. This is the
perfect gift for the sailboat owner, who can then spend the bleak days of winter
looking at the model, and dreaming of getting his/her boat back onto the water!

Yachts" by Jay Benford. It is not built to any specific scale, but is
simply meant as a decoration for a child's bedroom:
